Action Planning

Year 3: March - April

Action Planning

Units will use their Self-Study report and external review report to create a draft Action Plan using the action plan template and submit this to the APR team. The APR team will review for adherence to the action template within two business days of receipt of the draft plan, provide any process feedback to the unit, and the unit will submit the draft plan to the School/College Dean and the Vice Provost of Graduate Education, if the unit has graduate programs. Units will have three weeks to meet with the appropriate deans to refine the draft and obtain approval from the deans. The APR team will share the signed dean-approved draft with the provost. A meeting with the department chair, dean(s), provost, and APR team will be scheduled to allow the unit’s representative to present the approved action plan for discussion with the provost and APR team. Final approval by the provost will follow the meeting.

Unit Action Plans must include the following:
  • Three to five specific objectives units plan to accomplish, with at least one objective addressing each of the following broad areas:
    • Student learning and success
    • Resource effectiveness
    • Size/type of programs.
  • Critical activities needed to meet each objective, including who in the unit (or outside) is responsible for leading activity, including the timeline for activity implementation,
  • Specific benchmarks to be achieved at given times, for each critical activity
  • What deliverables will show progress is being made in the short term (one to two years) and long term (four to five years)
  • A timeline and plan to assess the effectiveness of the deliverable. (e.g., in a Monitoring Report, next APR cycle, in an annual assessment process)
  • A brief narrative explains the selected objectives and how benchmarks will indicate progress on them.

Deliverable: CAS Action Plan Template Revised 11_2025.docx; Schools (Non-CAS) Action Plan Template Revised 11_2025.docx
